A Groundbreaking Ground Breaking” was originally published on Calgary Sun

“The opportunity to experience more things, make more memories … is all there for the taking.”

Yep, he really said it.

“For those of you who know me, you will not believe what I’m about to say. Wait for it,” said Jay Westman, chairman and CEO of Jayman BUILT at a ceremony marking the start of construction at Westman Village. “I’d like to thank the City of Calgary for the creative guidance and the partnership-like engagement.

“That was groundbreaking in itself, believe me.”

The vision for Westman Village came from values A.C. Westman passed to his son, Jay, and came to life with a team effort.

“I’m so proud of the totally immersed collaboration by everyone — our ‘Village people,’ we call them — who believed and assisted in the vision of Westman Village and what it stands for,” said Jay.

“I believe it’s going to be epic. A groundbreaking project at every level and now the breaking (of) ground.”

With that, the dirt was dug and the Village begun.

Westman Village is described as a community within a community, situated on a 13.5-acre site on the south arm of Lake Mahogany.

Residential offerings include 256 Calligraphy apartment condos in three phases, 262 Lyric choice rental apartments in two phases, 316 Journey Club adult-only residences and 54 upscale Reflection executive bungalows.

It’s a groundbreaking community concept that does not exist anywhere in its entirety in Western Canada, possibly all of Canada, said Lisa Feist, vice-president for sales and marketing of Jayman BUILT, Multi-family.

“This was groundbreaking in more than just the literal sense,” said Feist.

“Living at Westman Village gets twice — no three times — the amenity.

“The Mahogany Beach Club offers 22,000 square feet in amenity space — think gym, flex space, studio space, skating — and Westman Village adds 35,000 square feet to that amenity. That’s 57,000 square feet of fun, relaxing, good living, friendship — and you haven’t even stepped outside yet.”

Village Centre is the hub of the community, said Feist.

“The centre will have a swimming lane pool, splash pool with two-storey water slide, fitness centre, walking track, spin and yoga studios, gymnasium, movie room, crafts room, wine cellar and so much more in 23 di erent room spaces,” she said.

“As well, 25,000 square feet of hand-selected, boutique style retailers.

“This offers Westman Village residents a tangible connection between our home environment and our well-being.

“The opportunity to experience more things, make more memories and choose how you spend your time is all there for the taking at Westman Village.”
