CEDAR PLACE – BCHF HOUSING – SOUTHGATE EW-1

In collaboration with the City of Burnaby, Ledingham McAllister and IBI Group, Integra Architecture is involved in the redevelopment of The Southgate Site (formally Safeway distribution centre). The Master Plan by IBI Group proposes a transformation, over time, of the existing property into a new neighbourhood with diversity of housing types. Southgate will be comprised of 5 distinct neighbourhood areas, each contributing to the full community.

Integra Architecture is responsible for 6 multi-family low-rise buildings in 4 neighbourhoods.
Designed for BC Housing, this 90-unit building is located in Ernie Winch Neighbourhood of Southgate Village.

The Cedar Place project composed of two buildings is an innovative partnership between the province and private sector that is replacing an out-dated social housing complex with new affordable housing for families and seniors.

In early 2019 the construction of the replacement affordable family housing development designed by Integra was completed across the street from the existing Cedar Place on LedMac’s Southgate development site. BC Housing owns and operates the new affordable family housing building.

The project strategy was to replace the old housing without displacing tenants. Residents from the old buildings were able to move into the new one soon after it was completed.
