REFLECTIONS – UBC

Reflections development is located in Hawthorn Place at the center of the MidCampus neighbourhood. The south edge of the site interfaces with Main Mall – the landscaped pedestrian route linking this area to the UBC facilities and Rhododendron Wood. The developed “West Side Classic” theme for this project reflects contemporary vernacular found in Shaughnessy and West Point Grey. Horizontal cement siding and shakes are familiar materials, accented by granite at feature building elements – columns, gate posts, and landscaped walls. Large roof overhangs, strong third floor cornice and large windows create tower – lantern like elements. The fourth floor is set back to provide the penthouse units with large roof decks. The two storey exterior lobby and the bridge that connects the north and south buildings, reduce the overall massing, constrained by the very narrow and long site.
