NICOLA LODGE COMPLEX CARE

Completed in 2016, Nicola Lodge is a full service complex care facility, providing 256 suites among 3 buildings within a campus of just over 3 acres. This facility provides an essential service to the community of Port Coquitlam by delivering care for aging residents throughout the Lower Mainland. The architecture of Nicola Lodge responds to its environment by reflecting a contemporary urban scale of 3 stories. A strong mix of bold materials for the exterior finishes were developed to include corrugated metal siding, fibre cement and aluminum accent panels at each of the buildings with undulating elevation forms.

This project incorporates a variety of sustainable design measures including high performance glazing, energy star / NEMA appliances and equipment where possible, solar shading devices at south facing facades, and a verdant lush landscaping plan to provide shade and tranquility to its residents and staff. Oversized glazing features are also proposed for this development allowing for an abundance of natural light, while a series of roof overhangs and horizontal louvers add the benefit of passive solar control.
