AXIR – RENTAL APARTMENTS

The recently completed development supports the City of North Vancouver’s goal to provide an increased supply of rental housing in locations that can benefit from existing transit corridors while contributing to the development of vibrant and sustainable neighbourhoods.
The project includes 64 units of market rental housing, with a mix of homes ranging from studios to 3-bedroom and a rooftop outdoor amenity space to encourage social interaction.
In response to neighbours’ concerns regarding a sixth storey massing, the development is a five-storey wood frame building, over two levels of underground parking. The building follows a simple, modern, familiar to North Vancouver West Coast vernacular that is consistent with existing residential buildings and blends harmoniously with the neighbourhood. The massing is articulated through the use of materials as well as with large balconies with screen elements.
The vertical screens on the 2nd-4th floors in addition to being an architectural feature offer the residents privacy, provide sun shading and reduce overlooking to the adjacent developments.
The masonry wall that extends above the entrance signifies the prominent façade and orients residents and visitors to the entrance as they approach the building along Lonsdale Ave.

The BC Energy Step Code, Step 3 compliance path was implemented for the development.

This development  contributes to the Upper Lonsdale neighbourhood by offering mid-market rental housing within an amenity-rich, walkable neighbourhood. Construction of the building included extensive public realm and infrastructure upgrades along Lonsdale Avenue and East 26th Street frontages. Pedestrian-oriented measures were required in the rear lane that together with a pathway along the south property serves as a community connection to Lonsdale Avenue.
