VERANDA

Veranda is a community of 200 townhomes, located in central Surrey. It takes advantage of adjoining shopping, parks and fitness complex in Fleetwood Community Centre. The development offers 3 & 4 bedroom townhouses with it’s vineyard inspired architectural theme and natural materials.
The design began as an idea about creating memories of a place – memories that recognized the rural history of the Fraser Valley, memories of the family farm with its simple utilitarian structures. This idea evolved into the notion of a family vineyard with the old ‘Coastal Vineyard’ as a theme for the community. The massing and roof forms are simple and the articulation derives  from “practical” appurtenances such as verandas and cupolas.

Historical connections were maintained across the site to a new multi-use trail along Fraser Highway which leads to a nearby community centre and regional recreation facility. The gradual slope of the site was utilized to create a dry creek and rainwater filtration system which helps purify water before it flows to a real creek. Veranda was one of the first townhome communities in Canada to receive BuiltGreen™ Gold Certification.
